Once upon a time, in the land before children, I was a high(ish) maintenance woman.
I had my hair cut and coloured. I got waxed. I got tinted and shaped.
I went to the gym. I LOVED going to the gym.
I had all the time in the world and only myself to worry about.
Ahhh those halcyon days.
These days I have four small people and a supertrucker to care for.
Luckily I know an extremely awesome chicky who comes and cuts/colours my hair at my home. Just as well, no way is my baby letting me sit in a salon for a few hours at the moment.
I got my legs waxed for my sister's wedding. Last October. Just as well it was a pretty chilly Summer.
I do paint my toenails when the weather is warm and look after my feet a bit. So not since about January this year.
I do my eyebrows because people can actually see my face.
I wear makeup most days... albeit the 'four minute face' of mineral foundation and mascara.
I get by on the bare minimum (for me) maintenance wise these days. I wouldn't trade my busy, wonderful, child-filled life for anything, but I will admit I sometimes wish I had a little more time to do things that make me feel a bit less Mumsy.
Actually, a shower on my own once in a while would be nice too!
What Mummy Maintenance do you do? And how has it changed?

Ohai! I'm Kate. I say stuff.

I didn't bother with anything much when I had small kids! Now they are older, I usually wear make up most days, dye my hair regularly, shave mah pits and legs once a week or so. I also paint my nails sometimes. I've never been a beauty salon type, but I do like to do the above, makes me feel happy :)
ReplyDeleteI love going to my hairdresser, luckily he is a very good friend of mine so he doesn't mine if I bring one of both of my feral children along. And did I mention mates rates? Wink.
ReplyDeleteI haven't shaved my legs in weeks, my pits I did this morning and I desperately need to colour my hair. I've had greys since I was 12, so a regular colour is a must.
How things have changed!

ReplyDeleteI havent shaved my legs in weeks (and the Irishman loves me anyway), my pits I did this morning. I desperately need to colour my hair though, Ive had greys since I was 12 and they seem to grow out faster than the rest of my hair.
How things have changed! Pre children I would never have let myself get in this state haha!

And I really dont know why both comments posted, the first one disappeared so I did it again now they're both there.
ReplyDeleteBit awkward hehe ;)
I last got my hair cut at the beginning of my pregnancy with Jasper and the last time I had a colour was when Kahlei (now 2 and a half) was 9 months old.
ReplyDeleteThese days, I hardly get around to brushing my hair - although if I feel and look particularly horrendous AND managed to catch myself in the mirror I might slap on some make up.
I would love to go to the hairdressers, get a nice cut and colour, and spend some time looking after myself....
Back in the day I wore make up daily, always had a different hair colour, always had my nails long and painted...
Fantastic hairdresser that works from home so I can get my cut and colour in the evening no stressing about time.
ReplyDeleteGet my eyebrows done for the same reasons as you.
My gym has a great creche.
I have to do my own pedicures...don't have access to that money tree.
Love & stuff

Mummies need pampering. Mummies need showers (alone). Very hard to get maintained these days, bare minimum going on... I do like to get haircuts though (on weekends where hubster holds the kids). If I don't then I have bad hair days that make me even more cranky than usual. :/
ReplyDeleteWould love (in my dreams) a monthly massage, manicure and pedicure - ah bliss!
I can so relate to this post Kate - my legs were last waxed before I gave birth to my second boy, wait for it...8.5 months ago....scary. The weird thing is after giving birth I actually hate the whole waxing experience - I hate the pain and being man-handled - you'd think after going thru childbirth going for a wax wouldn't worry me at all but it's the opposite. I figure I have enough pain in my life let alone volunteering for more!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my facebook page. Am your latest follower,

I waxed when I was younger- from 13-19 then moved to Japan where it is not common so started shaving. I always waxed my eyebrows in Australia but now only do it when I go back to Australia.
ReplyDeleteI get my haircut here- don`t colour it anymore. When the boys are a bit older I might start using packet dye to colour it. I used to LOVE colouring my hair and having it cut into crazy styles. Did some hair modelling so got cheap or free cuts/colours as long as I let them take photos or whatever which was great when I was a student.
I paint my toenails. Once a month. I shave my legs when I have time but I have a shower with my 17 month old everyday (Japanese baths are deep- and I would have to get in with him) so shaving usually happens on weekends if I manage a shower by myself.
Now I am lucky if I wash my hair 3 times a week and wear make up when I go out. I always put a bit of foundation, mascara and lipgloss on even if we are just going to the park.
Giving up some things (like colouring my hair, getting facials, massages) is also because we only have one full-time salary now- I usually do something to pamper myself when in Australia though as a treat.
I have been walking around with one eyebrow done and the other so not for about 4 days now! Probably should fix that ;-) Everything else gets done on a as needed basis... or when I notice that it's so bad it can't be ignored any more. Can't wait until the Monkey Boy is in child care (another 16 mths to go!) so I can go to a day spa or something and get the past 2 years of neglect all fixed up :-)
ReplyDeleteSince getting my haircut short I've actually had to make sure I maintain it and 'do' it in the mornings - it doesn't take long, but certainly slightly longer than the pony tail I would scrape my heir into at the lights while driving the kids to school!
ReplyDeleteEr, no, not a *huge* amount of mummy-maintenance going on around here :-)
