Playing with my balls.

I received a pitch in my inbox (not a euphemism) recently that gave me pause for thought. At first I wondered if I was comfortable writing about the product here, but then the more I considered it the more it seemed like a good idea.

Here's why I sat on it (not literally) (well kind of literally) for a little while.

Balls. Well, ball.

I thought about how I could write something hilarious and related to 50 Shades of Grey. Because there is a fair bit of mention of playing with balls in that text.

Then I was thinking of awesome titles I could use. The Benefits of Ben Wa maybe? Although to meet that criteria you would need a second ball (which incidentally is a thing outlined in the instruction information, you can connect two together quite easily... I see what you're doing there Intima ;)). Definitionally I guess this product best resembles a singular duotone ball.

And in case anyone is getting a bit disturbed, best click away now because in shocking news just in Mums have sex too. Srsly. That is where the babies come from. True story.

Anyway the reason I decided to go ahead with this review was that the Kegel Exercisers aren't actually being marketed as sex toys, but as a therapeutic device to help strengthen women's pelvic muscles. Which for the record is one of the reasons people use Ben Wa balls too. And personal massagers as well I am sure.

All that aside, there is a reality to being a Mum that people don't love talking about. When your body grows a whole new person within it your pelvic floor muscles can be pushed to their limit. I know I am SO lucky that having grown and birthed four people I don't have any pelvic floor or continence issues. Yet. What I do have is an understanding of how upsetting these issues can be, and an intention to keep my pelvic floor as strong as possible.

The Kegel Exercisers come in three different weights. They are singular balls that have a weight within them. You insert the ball and then follow the instructions (which to be honest I only glanced at). I just did my usual stuff. Washing dishes, vaccuuming, blah blah balls blah.

For the first little while I thought it was a bit of a crock. But after 15 minutes or so I realised that I was contracting my pelvic floor muscles subconsciously and fairly regularly, so obviously my muscles had registered the weight and were working to support it. I do pelvic floor exercises regularly when I think of it so recognised when the muscles were becoming fatigued, which was much faster than when I do regular pelvic muscle exercises. In that sense I do think the Kegel Exerciser is of benefit. I'll not get back to you about the other benefits, you can find them out for yourself.

If you'd like to experiment with balls try out the Kegel Exerciser for yourself, I have five to give away.

Because this may be a sensitive topic for some, to enter you just need to click this link, which will connect with the Kate Says Stuff Facebook page and register your email address. There is no auto publish to your timeline so your privacy is assured. That said, if you know someone who might benefit please do share the giveaway with them too.

Closing Friday 20th July, entry is open to Australian residents only.

And while you're at it do a quick 20 squeezes. Your pelvic floor will thank you!
