Quite frequently I’m asked what is the most important piece of advice that I have for parents. After thinking about it for some time, my answer would be that they should keep regular bedtime schedule with their kids. Answer like that is a bit surprising to people, but it makes sense once you start taking into account research which suggests that kids who have irregular sleep patterns have problems with behavior and are prone to picking up bad habits in other aspects of life.
Have you ever had a problem where your kid starts drawing on walls and ruining the paint job or that freshly applied wallpaper? Well then you might need add a whiteboard to your kids room. My youngest seems to be going through the, “hey lets draw on walls phase”, right now, and ever since we bought him a whiteboard, with differently colored sharpies, the incidents where he paints the walls have completely stopped.
It’s difficult nowadays to get kids to eat healthy. It seems as though everything in our society has been saturated with sugar. Kids are getting addicted to it left and right. What’s even worse, as a parent you get less and less control over how much sweets your kids can get their hands on, at least that’s been my experience. Schools in the area even have vending machines, friends of my kids have parents that don’t exactly care what they eat at sleepovers, play dates and parties, and advertising isn’t making things easier either. Today I’d like to share with you a trick I picked up on how to get kids to eat healthy.
Today I got a very unsettling message from a person who isn’t quite happy with one of the things that I said on the homepage. What “triggered” them was me saying that parents should keep permissiveness at a minimum when dealing with kids. In other words, what I was trying to say is that parents should learn to say no to their kids, at least sometimes. In the recent years more and more parents have been saying yes to every little request and that their kids have. This isn’t healthy and I think we should put a stop to this.
